Chattanooga Symphony And Opera Appoints John Kilkenny As Executive Director
Don McDowell, president of the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera, announced the appointment of John Kilkenny as executive director on Tuesday, effective March 1.

McDowell said: “We are delighted to welcome John Kilkenny to the CSO as the next Executive Director. John is knowledgeable in all aspects of the management that this position requires. Accepting the post, Mr Kilkenny said: “I am delighted and honored to join the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera as Executive Director. As a performing artist myself, I know firsthand the power of music to transform individuals and uplift community – there is much we can do together to strengthen the bond between symphony, opera, symphonic youth. and the great community of Chattanooga, and I look forward to working with everyone.
CSO Music Director Kayoko Dan said, “I have had the pleasure of working with John during my career. He is a born leader. John understands what makes greatness, strives to achieve it, and encourages others to do the same in positive and supportive ways.
Mr Kilkenny was chosen unanimously by a seven-member committee that conducted a nationwide search to identify candidates for the leadership position. committee member and OSC Orchestra Committee Chair Carey Shinbaum said, “John is an overall visionary who knows what it takes for an arts organization to inspire audiences and donors from diverse populations. In announcing the appointment of Mr. Kilkenny, Mr. McDowell also thanked Samantha Teter for her exceptional leadership during her nine-year tenure. Ms. Teter joined CSO as Marketing Director in 2012 and served as Executive Director from 2016 until the end of 2021.
