The Kansas City Symphony has announced the appointment of Gonzalo Farias as Associate Conductor of David T. Beals III. Farias will assume the role beginning in the 2022-23 season, replacing Jason Seber, who completes his six-year tenure with the Symphony in June 2022.
After an international search, Farias rose to the top of the applicant pool of over 120 applicants and joined KC Symphony after serving as Associate Conductor of the Jacksonville Symphony.
The Maestro will move to Kansas City this summer and serve as the Symphony Orchestra’s representative in the community, directing the orchestra’s educational programs, which include more than 40 performances that reach 30,000 students each year.
“I am absolutely thrilled to work alongside the world-class musicians and administration of the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra,” Farias said in a press release. “I feel a great sense of excitement and responsibility to be part of the respect, trust and love established by [Music Director] Michael Stern and the KC Symphony in the community. I look forward to meeting everyone and creating unforgettable memories.
Stern added: “The role of associate conductor is vital and touches all facets of the daily life and work of our orchestra. It requires wonderful musicianship, a podium personality, leadership skills and perfect preparation in order to be ready for any last minute situation.
Farias’ debut with the orchestra will take place on April 9, 2022, when he will lead a family program featuring Prokofiev’s beloved “Peter and the Wolf.” In his new role, Farias will host numerous KC Symphony pop, family and Film + Live Orchestra concerts, as well as other special presentations.
