PORGY AND BESS, DON GIOVANNI & More Announced for North Carolina Opera’s 2022/2023 Season

The Triangle’s premier opera company has announced its upcoming 2022/2023 season. The North Carolina Opera will open the season with a concert of Puccini’s MANON LESCAUT on October 2 at the Meymandi Concert Hall. The special one-performance presentation will feature a full orchestra on stage and will mark the premiere of the NCO play.
Later in the season, NC Opera launches another company debut, with PORGY AND BESS by George GershwinDuBose and Dorothee Heyward and Ira Gershwin (April 14 & 16). The co-production with Charlotte’s Opera Carolina will be staged entirely at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium and illustrates NCO’s ongoing commitment to producing American opera for Triangle audiences.
After recently wrapping up a record-breaking run of Mozart’s THE MAGIC FLUTE, the season closes with another of Mozart’s most famous works, DON GIOVANNI (January 27 and 29). The devilish comedy will reunite conductor Joseph Mechavich and director Brenna Corner, who previously helmed NCO’s 2021 production of LA BOHÈME to rave reviews.
“After our record breaking 21/22 season, we are thrilled to share our lineup for 22/23,” said NC Opera General Manager Eric Mitchko. “Our new season features three great operas that encompass a wide range of repertoire styles and some truly fantastic artists. We look forward to welcoming new audiences and returning to opera.”
