An opera on the Ottoman sultan Bayezid I will be staged in Istanbul

Istanbul State Opera and Ballet will perform the Italian opera ‘Bajazet’, which revolves around the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I, also known as Bayezid the Thunderbolt, at the Süreyya Opera House in Istanbul on 31 March and April 2.
Composed by Antonio Vivaldi in 1735 for the Carnival of Verona, “Bajazet” tells the story of the capture of Bayezid I by Amir Timur (Tamerlane) of Mongolian origin and his life in the later period. Its libretto was written by Agostino Piovene.
Mehmet Ergüven prepared the opera for the Istanbul stage while its set design was directed by Nihat Kahraman. Sevda Aksakoğlu did the costume design and light design by Metin Koçtürk. The conductor is Paolo Villa.
The opera stars Kaan Buldular in “Tamerlano”, Şahin Dedemen in “Bayezid”, Ceren Şahin in “Asteria”, Elif Tuğba Tekışık in “Andronicus”, Dilan Şaka in “Irene” and Sevim Z. Ateş in “Idaspe” .
