Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra announces new season

ANN ARBOR – Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra announced its 2022-23 concert season on Thursday.

The season will feature shows for audiences of all ages, including six classical concerts on the main stage and three family-friendly pop events at the Hill Auditorium and the Michigan Theater.

“This visionary season was crafted with all of our audiences in mind,” said Sarah Calderini, Executive Director of A2SO. “We are proud to celebrate the rich diversity of classical music that has stood the test of time and promises to further enhance our enjoyment and sense of togetherness.”

Also new this season? A new musical director will join A2SO.

Over the past year, the orchestra has auditioned six internationally renowned conductor candidates. A2SO’s chosen candidate will be announced this summer, according to a statement.

“A2SO’s Music Director will continue our mission to forge new connections and collaborations, bring exceptional music to an ever-expanding audience, and solidify our position as one of the highest caliber regional orchestras in the world. Midwest,” read a press release.

So what can audiences expect this season? Performances will highlight classic masterpieces by Beethoven, Berlioz, Dvorak and Mahler and new works by Caroline Shaw, John Adams, Jorge Muñiz and more.

Soloists Inon Barnatan, Susan Platts, Vuvu Mpofu and Timothy McAllister will help bring the tracks to life, according to a statement.

The orchestra’s popular and beloved pop series will feature Studio Ghibli soundtracks, the greatest Holiday Pops of all time and a classic crossover to end the season with Grammy-nominated singer Cody Fry.
