Since last week, the public has had the opportunity to hear the albums of two of the most exciting young singers of their generation as well as the albums of Mahler and Mozart.

Here’s a look at what’s new from last week.

Boulevard of the Italians

Deutsche Grammophon releases the second album by French tenor Benjamin Bernheim. In his new album, he explores the work of Italian opera composers in France. Familiar and lesser-known excerpts by Donizetti and Verdi, all in French, are paired with earlier music by Spontini and Cherubini, as well as two beloved Puccini arias and an excerpt from Mascagni’s “Amica” . Frédéric Chaslin conducts the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

This be his verse

ALPHA Records releases Golda Schultz’s “This Be Her Verse” album. The album contains women’s songs about women and includes music by Clara Schumann, Emilie Mayer, Rebecca Clarke, Nadia Boulanger; Kathleen Tag.

Mahler Symphony No. 4

The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and its conductor and music director Semyon Bychkov present a new recording of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony. PENTATONE releases the album which also features soprano Chen Reiss.

“Discovering Mahler’s music is like discovering life itself. To live it is to be drawn into its universe and its values. What emerges from his music, his letters and the testimonies of those who knew him is the duality of this man. Creator and performer at the same time, he invents sounds that recreate the world of nature and man,” said Semyon Bychkov.

Lucio Silla

Franco Fagioli, Olga Pudova, Alessandro Liberatore, Chiara Skerath and Ilse Eerens perform in Mozart’s opera with the Jeune Chœur de Paris and the Insula orchestra. Laurence Equilbey is conducting the new recording for Erato. The new recording marks the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s opera “Lucio Silla” in a new audio recording.

The album was recorded live and was taken from stage performances of the work at La Seine Musicale, the orchestra’s state-of-the-art Parisian home, during the Festival Mozart Maximum production in June 2021.

dream lover

Composer Albena Petrovic releases DREAMLOVER, which explores new avenues for the expressive possibilities of the saxophone. Baritone saxophonist Joan Mari Frasquier, Ensemble Kebyart, soprano Cynthia Knoch and pianist Romain Nosbaum are taking part in this project.

Nisi Dominus – Stabat Mater

Rising star countertenor: Alois Mühlbacher rubs shoulders with soprano soloist Florian Christian Ziemski and the Scaramouche Ensemble. On the program, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Antonio Vivaldi’s Nisi Dominus, two heavyweights of the sacred repertoire of Italian Baroque music, full of melodic beauty and virtuoso interludes. Preiser Records released the album.
