Following the success of ‘The Queen’s Jubilee Celebration’, the Bolton Symphony Orchestra will continue its 2022 season with a concert titled ‘Thank you for the Music’.

The concert will be subtitled “A Viennese Spring Collection” and was organized in memory of Dr Robert Aston, who was the orchestra’s president for many years, and during this time he also worked as conductor. orchestra and accompanist of many local musical societies.

These included the Bolton Catholic Musical and Choral Society, the Ladybridge Singers, the University of the Third Age Singing for Pleasure Group, the Operetta Company and the Bolton Festival Choir and Orchestra.

Mr. Aston died in 2020 and to keep his memory alive, the orchestra is dedicating its concert to him.

For many years Mr. Aston was parish organist at St Mary’s Church, Horwich.

He was involved in many inter-church musical activities in Bolton and organized several series of charity concerts.

As well as being chairman of the orchestra, he was a board member of the Trust Music charity, which he helped to found, and he was also fond of supporting Bolton Music Service.

A spokesman for the orchestra said: ‘He is greatly missed by our members and this concert is our way of saying ‘thank you’ for his dedication to so many groups in the Bolton community.

“This concert is sure to delight spectators young and old and you can be assured of a warm welcome from the orchestra.

“Victoria Hall is a very large and spacious venue, and the orchestra and audience will need to follow all current Covid-19 regulations during the concert.”

The program includes works by Mozart, Beethoven and Finzi, as well as a piece by our very own John Parkinson.

The concert will take place at Victoria Hall in Bolton on Saturday 12 March at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £12 each and free for those under 19.
