Colombian conductor featured in a special concert by the Turkish Presidential Orchestra

ANKARA
On Wednesday evening, the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (CSO) of Türkiye will feature renowned Colombian conductor Felipe Aguirre.
With a special repertoire focused on Colombian folk music, the concert will take place in the Great Hall of the orchestra’s ADA Concert Complex in the capital Ankara.
The repertoire will include 13 Colombian songs, including well-known pieces Colombia Tierra Querida and Yo Me Llamo Cumbia.
The concert takes place under the banner of Traveling around Colombia through Music.
Saying he was “very excited” to perform Colombian music in symphonic version for the second time in Türkiye, Aguirre told Anadolu Agency that it is a “very special” experience to work with the Turkish orchestra because ” although the countries are very (geographically) distant, the heart of the people, the soul of the people is very close.”
He said the last time he was here was seven years ago, when he hosted a “quite similar” concert.
The conductor said audiences should expect “highly rhythmic musical melodies that will almost have them dancing together or with the beat”.
On the similarities between Turkish and Colombian music, he said both are “very rhythmic, complex and interesting” while they differ in different melodic patterns.
Aguirre said tonight’s 13 tracks are like anthems for Colombians, songs from their childhood, adding that there are a few tracks that might be recognized by Turks.
On the songs Colombia Tierra Querida and Yo Me Llamo Cumbia, he said, “Both are Colombian, and I would say both are becoming well known overseas.”
“Music is a language, we all know that. But it’s very interesting that Colombian music is a very specific language, a language that speaks to everyone’s heart and soul,” said the conductor. “So I would be very happy if we, by sharing this music, could make people really touched by this music and even if they want to dance or clap.”
Considering possible future concerts and projects in Türkiye, he said he was looking forward to seeing more collaborations between the Colombian Embassy and the Presidential Symphony Orchestra so that more musicians have similar opportunities.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. local time.
