The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will return on May 28 with a concert titled “European Day Concert” at 7:30 p.m. at Katara Cultural Village, Opera House.
QPO will celebrate European Day 2022 with an inspiring concert from various European regions.
The program includes the most enduring works by Sibelius “Finlandia”, Strauss “On the Beautiful Blue Danube”, Puccini “Manon Lescaut”, Chabrier “España” and Liszt “Hungarian Rhapsody”. You will also be able to enjoy the music of well-known composers such as Charpentier, Wagner, Berlioz and Offenbach, all conducted by maestro David Niemann.
In June they will give five concerts entitled The Best of Franz Liszt on June 3, Classics of the Golden Age on June 9, The Best of Brahms on June 18, Classic Hits – Bruch Violin Concerto on June 21 and Northern European Impressions by Grieg and Sibelius. All will take place at the Katara Opera House at 7:30 p.m.
The Best of Franz Liszt features Liszt’s finest works, including Piano Concerto No. 1, a piece so magnificent it took Liszt more than 25 years to complete, as well as Les Préludes, symphonic poems by Liszt. This concert is for piano lovers because Liszt was considered the greatest piano virtuoso of his time. János Balázs will play the solo piano and Alastair Willis will conduct the concert.
QPO and the Music Affairs of the Ministry of Culture will perform the Golden Age Classics concert. The unprecedented concert presents classics from the golden age of Arab cinema, as well as music from Qatar with the distinguished participation of many young singing talents performing in an orchestral setting. This concert is not to be missed and will feature music from big names such as Umm Kulthum, Fairuz, Faraj Abdul Karim, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Ali Abdul Sattar among others.
The Best of Brahms will play the three greatest pieces of classical music ever performed – the Romantic Age tragedy ‘Brahms’ Tragic Overture’ and Brahms’ Symphony No. 1, also Queen Marie Antoinette’s favorite ‘Symphony No. 85 known as The Queen (The Queen)” by Haydn. The conductor of this concert is Maestro Elias Grandy.
Classic Hits – Bruch Violin Concerto is a concert that includes one of Mozart’s supreme achievements and one of the greatest operas of all time “Don Giovanni – Overture”.
