The Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam has announced the postponement of “Le lacrime di Eros” and the cancellation of Strauss’ “Salome” which were scheduled for January and February 2022.
“After having thoroughly assessed the current situation of the Covid and analyzed the various restrictions, the decision was taken to postpone the production of Le lacrime di Eros to a future season. Creators Raphaël Pichon and Romeo Castellucci and director of the Dutch National Opera Sophie de Lint discussed this decision with heavy hearts, but are convinced that such a special, beautiful and artistically stimulating project needs different times to be created, ”the opera said in a statement. .
The world premiere of “Le lacrime di Eros” was scheduled for January 20, 2022.
“DNO has made another difficult decision with our partner the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and their conductor Lahav Shani, which is to cancel Salome from Ivo van Hove due to the many uncertainties surrounding the current Covid restrictions. I don’t think it’s fair to ask the artists to come to Amsterdam at the very beginning of January to start rehearsals when we have no guarantee of performing in front of a live audience, ”the opera added. “Salome” was to open on January 29, 2022 and was to last until February 14, 2022.
The Netherlands is currently on hold until January 14, 2022, and recently registered 13,332 new cases of COVID-19 on December 23, 2021.
