EU Chamber Orchestra concert tickets sell out in 19 minutes
BOX office records have been shattered in the rush for tickets to see one of Europe’s top touring orchestras at Taunton.
All 300 tickets were sold out in just 19 minutes to see the European Union Chamber Orchestra (EUCO), which kicks off its final UK tour in the city on Friday 16 September.
They will perform Vivaldi’s popular Four Seasons at St James’s Church.
Box office volunteer Lynn Burgess said: “We’ve been inundated with bookings.
“Everyone loves the Four Seasons. To hear it performed live in Taunton town center by such a famous orchestra is an exciting, once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
The orchestra flies to the UK for a prestigious series of concerts with Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the famous British cellist who played at the last royal wedding.
EUCO’s Taunton concert is intended as a warm-up before meeting Sheku the next day.
The EUCO musicians, who are chosen from among the top players from the 27 EU member states and tour the world as the union’s cultural ambassadors, look forward to visiting Taunton again.
Their German conductor, Hans-Peter Hofmann, said: “I am delighted that we are starting our tour in Taunton.
“I’ve played here at four packed concerts in the last eight years and each time I’ve had a wonderful reception.”
The concert will also feature Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, Mozart’s Divertimento in D Major and Dvorak’s Two Waltzes.
