John Williams’ Epic Sci-Fi Scores To Be Performed Live At Three Unforgettable Concerts In May
fans of the star wars the saga, iconic film scores or classical music will be a real treat later this year as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra gives us Star Wars music. This trio of must-see spring concerts celebrates the genius of multi-Oscar-winning composer John Williams and continues the RSNO’s triumphant return to live music. They aim to transport you to a galaxy far, far away as your favorite themes from the legendary sci-fi series are brilliantly interpreted.
What you prefer A new hope, The Phantom Menace Where The Last Jedi, the entire series will be represented in full force for every generation of your family, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for fans of the films to see their favorite scores performed in person. The show will kick off at Usher Hall in Edinburgh on Friday May 6, before moving to Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Saturday May 7 and finally Caird Hall in Dundee on Sunday May 8, with tickets on sale now.
An incomparable figure in the history of film scores, the prolific Williams recently celebrated his 90th birthday, which was marked by a pair of RSNO tribute concerts. He is the recipient of 25 Grammy Awards, seven BAFTAs, five Oscars (out of 52 notable nominations) and four Golden Globes. While his musical contributions to the star wars franchise is perhaps his most famous achievement, with scores for Jaws, Dating of the Third Kind, Superman, HEY , jurassic park and Harry Potter among others, it is certainly a competitive field.
The RSNO is one of Europe’s leading orchestras and has played an important role in the musical life of Scotland since its founding in 1891, with Royal Patronage awarded in 1977. The orchestra performs regularly at the International Festival of ‘Edinburgh and the BBC Proms and performed at the opening ceremony. of the Scottish Parliament building in 2004. Their artistic team is led by Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård, who was appointed Music Director of RSNO in 2018.
The event will be presented by a true expert in the art form, BBC Radio 3’s Tom Redmond, who has introduced classical music to over 250,000 young people and their families through a series of interactive concerts and who is involved in the BBC’s Ten Pieces project, leading creative workshops with celebrity ambassadors and acting as an orchestral consultant. Tom has an impressive musical background, having traveled the world as a horn player with the City of Birmingham and London Symphony Orchestras, among others.
For this concert, the orchestra will be conducted by popular conductor Stephen Bell. Bell studied at the Royal College of Music under renowned conductor Norman Del Mar. He was appointed Artistic Director of the City of Oxford Orchestra in 2009 and Associate Conductor of Hallé Pops in 2013. Stephen spent several years conducting the annual BBC Proms In The Park show with the BBC Philharmonic and appears annually on the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra The last night of the balls celebrations.
