The musicians’ ‘showmanship’ is really fun to watch,” said Brian Leff, director of jazz studies at West Ranch High School, which organized the event. “It’s a chance for people of all ages to experience the story, appreciate the magical melodies, and come away knowing you’re supporting a new generation of talented musicians in the process.”

“By seeing a professional jazz ensemble, young musicians can learn to play the jazz style more accurately with up-close and personal experience,” Leff said. “Instead of learning by just listening to recordings, they get the chance to hear a live big band. They also get to see what music career opportunities exist after high school.
This is the sixth time the Glenn Miller Orchestra has performed at West Ranch High School, and Leff said the group has always delighted those who have shown up to hear them play.
