Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra’s Poinsettia Pops concert returns on Saturday

The highly anticipated Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra Poinsettia Pops holiday concert is scheduled to return at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Montfort Concert Hall at the Union Colony Civic Center, 701 10th Ave.
For over 30 years, the GPO has kicked off the holiday season with this concert, in partnership with the Greeley Philharmonic Guild and the City of Greeley Festival of Trees.
“The holiday season is my favorite time of year – the holiday decorations, holiday music, family reunions, parties and the overall joy that comes with creating memories with loved ones,” Nick said. Kenny, Executive Director of GPO. “Poinsettia Pops is your chance to enjoy the majesty of the poinsettia-adorned Monfort Concert Hall, experience world-class orchestral music, and even sing some of your favorite Christmas carols.”
The concert will feature performances by the Greeley Chorale, Greeley Children’s Chorale and solo soprano Jalyn Webb. The orchestra will also perform new pieces written specifically for the group by Dylan Fixmer, the GPO’s composer in residence.
The orchestra will be under the direction of new musical director Lowell Graham.
“I’ve conducted a lot of holiday and Christmas concerts in my career, and they were all really special,” Graham said. “Poinsettia Pops is my return to the music of the season which features finely crafted arrangements and original music that are familiar, engaging and loved.”
Poinsettia Pops is presented in memory of Betty Tointon, and soloist Jalyn Webb is sponsored by Waldo & Waldo Attorneys at Law in memory of beloved community member and historian Peggy Ford Waldo.
The Greeley Chorale and the Children’s Chorale are presented by Robert and Diane Miller.
After 19 months of sinking due to COVID-19, Graham, Kenny and members of the orchestra are excited to bring the music back to the Union Colony Civic Center throughout the orchestra’s 110th concert season.
“The arts have changed dramatically since March 2020 and our concert halls still fall short of our 1,600-seat capacity. Venues across the region are experiencing a 30% drop in concert attendance, making this recovery more difficult, ”said Kenny. “Fortunately, we now have the ability to broadcast live concerts, so people can continue to support us from the comfort of their own homes.
“However, nothing can beat the real thing – the energy, passion and magic of live music,” he added.
All ages are welcome to attend the concert. Tickets cost $ 37 for an A seat and $ 25 for a B seat.
