Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud shines the spotlight on some of his native’s best violin composers and spans the centuries on his ICO debut. The ICO presents Home a world premiere of an ICO commission from Irish composer Siobhan Lamb. Kraggerud performs a superb arrangement of La Mélancolie Melody, known as I Ensomme Stunde or In Lonely Moments. Svendsen wrote brilliantly and his popular Romanze reflects his deep knowledge of stringed instruments and is one of his most popular works. Cross the fjords with Grieg’s Holberg Suite, a fabulous collection of delightful dances, inspired by playwright Ludwig Holberg. The Suite showcases Grieg’s great skill with simple harmonies that are bright but powerfully moving. Suite in A minor from Sinding, op. 10, was presented by the great violinists of the time, including Kreisler and we hear the second slow movement, unspeakably beautiful, a real spectacle. In the 21st century, Kraggerud presents four extracts from his ingenious masterpiece, his Equinox Suite for violin and chamber orchestra where 24 time zones are molded into four concertos in six movements Afternoon, Evening, Night and Morning. Finally, enjoy a delicious folk song Chant de Veslemøy, with a heartwarming tune, from Halvorsen’s Mosaic Suite.
