The Birmingham City Symphony Orchestra has announced that conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla will extend her commitment to the orchestra.
Gražinytė-Tyla will continue to serve as Osborn’s Music Director until the summer of 2022, after which he will assume the role of Principal Guest Conductor.
“We are delighted to continue our relationship with Mirga and are extremely grateful for the endless energy, passion and creativity that she puts into her work with us. We are delighted that she has agreed to extend her commitment to CBSO and we are delighted to be able to support her as she balances her professional life. We look forward to making music together in the future, ”CBSO CEO Stephen Maddock said in a press release.
“I have decided to step down as Music Director of CBSO at the end of the 2021/22 season and gladly accepted the orchestra’s invitation to become guest principal conductor for the 2022/23 season. This is a deeply personal decision, reflecting my desire to move away from the organizational and administrative responsibilities of being a music director at this particular time in my life and to focus more on my purely musical pursuits. I have such a great admiration and affection for the musicians of CBSO and I am absolutely delighted that we continue to make music together in the years to come, ”Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla said in the statement.
