Melodic welcome to the new year with favorite operas and operettas

Thursday December 30 8:30 p.m.

Athens State Orchestra New Year’s Gala on Thursday, December 30 at 8:30 p.m. at the Athens Concert Hall!

Faithful to the festive meeting with the public, the CMO welcomes in 2022 to Athens concert hall with melodies of favorite operas and operettas performed by four renowned lyric singers, the fort Myrto Papathanassiouthe the mezzo-soprano Marisa Papalexiou, The tenor Mario Zeffiri [Mario Jeffiri] and baritone Dimitris Tiliakos. On the podium, the experienced conductor Byron fidetzis. Focus on romance, from the introduction of his “Sniper” Carl Maria von Weber [Carl Maria von Weber] to his “Porgy and Bess” George gershwin [George Gershwin], a work that flirts with jazz, this year’s gala will be – as always – a magnificent musical prelude to the New Year!

The program

Airs, duets and quartets of cosmopolitan works from the international lyrical repertoire make up the musical landscape of the evening.

Soprano Myrto Papathanassiou, mezzo-soprano Maria Papalexiou, tenor Mario Zeffiri and baritone Dimitris Tiliakos will present tunes representative of “Rusalka” of Antonin Dvořák [Antonin Dvorak], to “Herodias” of Jules Massenet [Jules Massene], him “Guillaume Tello” of Giacchino Rossini [Gioacchino Rossini] and them “Clowns” of Ruggero Leoncavallo [Ruggero Leoncavallo].

The four lyricists also chose a popular duet from among them. “Pearl fishermen” of Georges bizet [Georges Bizet], the “Norma” of Vincenzo Bellini [Vincenzo Bellini], the “Porgy and Bess” of George gershwin [George Gershwin] as well as operettas “The beautiful Helena” of Jacques Offenbach [Jacques Offenbach] and “The Princess of Chard” of Emmerich Kalman [Emmerich Kalman], but also opera “Perugia” of Theofrastou Sakellaridis.

From the glamorous KOA gala to the Megaron, of course, the orchestral extracts could not be missing, the necessary musical “breaths” that give the audience the opportunity to know or even remember their favorite melodies, like his fascinating Introduction “Sniper” of Carl Maria von Weber [Karl Maria von Weber], a lyrical work premiered in Berlin in 1821. The Athens State Orchestra will also perform the exotic Bacchanale (bacchanal dance) of the famous lyric work. “Sampson and Dalida” of Camille Saint-Saëns [Kamig Saint-Saens] as well as the impressive Introduction of the operetta “Poet and peasant” by Franz von Suppé, one of the most eminent representatives of the Viennese operetta. Members of the eminent Athenian ensemble, still under the musical direction of Vyronas Fidetzis, a conductor who has contributed significantly to the promotion of the Greek repertoire, will also present the Prelude to the rare opera “Lionella” by the brilliant Ionian composer. Spyrou Samara.
