OperaStream will broadcast ‘Maria de Buenos Aires’ from the Teatro Comunale

OperaStreaming has announced that it will perform “Maria de Buenos Aires” by Piazzolla from the Teatro Comunale de Ferrara on December 18 and 19, 2021.
The showcase, which will feature a new production directed by Carlos Branco and directed by Jacopo Rivani, will feature Martina Belli in the title role alongside Ruben Peloni as Payador and Daniel Bonilla-Torres as El Duende. Davide Vendramin will be solo on the bandéon.
The tango opera will feature choreography by Michele Merola as well as performers from the MM Contemporary Dance Company, the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza and the Arcangelo Corelli Orchestra.
“Maria’s story is basically a metaphor. Its story tells the story of the years of poverty, hope, oppression by a dictatorial state and the temporary rebirth of this quintessential metropolis: its inhabitants are almost all Europeans in exile. It is precisely the meaning of the word “exile” that will be developed and explored in this performance. The exile from his own land, from his own neighborhood, from childhood, from his own soul, from oneself, “Branca said in a press release.” There is an imaginary city supported and at the same time caged by a metal structure. Scenographically, everything is imprisoned, the scaffolding that occupies the backdrop of the scene supports walls under construction or in ruins and keeps the buildings, its inhabitants and the music itself trapped. Mankind destroys its own magnificent works with wicked deeds. Beautiful and bewitching music will emerge from the same cage and lead María towards what will be her terrible destiny, which will imprison her without leaving any escape with the only possibility of escaping towards a precipice, at the bottom of which she finds herself, her shadow.
The next step will be the live broadcast of “Il Farnace” by Vivaldi on December 30 and 31, 2021.
