Richmond Symphony Orchestra Concert Winner of Young Artist, Film Scores
RICHMOND, ind. — The theme for the Richmond Symphony Orchestra’s Sunday, November 24 matinee concert is “Movie Magic.”
Works by John Williams will be featured at the 3 p.m. concert, featuring music from “Hook,” “ET,” “The Patriot,” and “With Malice Towards None” from “Lincoln,” featuring lead trumpet from RSO, Wesley Woolard, as soloist.
Also on the program, film music from “Gladiator”, “Back to the Future” and “The Sound of Music”.
Theresa Orth, winner of the Young Artists in the Spotlight Competition, will join the musicians of the RSO to perform “Viola Concerto: l. Andante comodo” by William Walton.
The concert will reward participants in the 2019 Young Artists Competition sponsored by Jeevan and Amy Sekhar. Cash prizes will be awarded to YAC Orth winner and YAC runner-up Molly Goins, marimba. YAC finalists will be recognized on stage, including Ana-Elizabeth Cook, horn; Katelyn Ferguson, voice; Austi Jenkins, voice; and Amanda Moore, piano.
The concert will take place on the RSO stage at the Civic Hall Performing Arts Center, 380 Hub Etchison Parkway. Doors will open at 2 p.m. for guests to enjoy a pre-concert performance of holiday music by the RSO Singers in the lobby. Anyone looking for a special gift this holiday season can also purchase half-season tickets for the remaining three concerts, available for $40.
An intermission with free refreshments will take place halfway through the concert.
