The Clinton Symphony Orchestra is back with its annual vacation program on December 11

The Clinton Symphony Orchestra’s annual “Holidays with the Symphony” concert is back this year. It’s scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Saturday, December 11, at the Vernon Cook Theater at Clinton High School.
Conductor Brian Dollinger has chosen the festive polonaise from Russian composer Rimsky-Korsakov’s “New Year’s Suite” to open the program. Other music includes selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite”, Corelli’s “Christmas Concerto”, the opera “Hansel and Gretel” overture and several seasonal pieces by Leroy Anderson, including his popular ” Sleigh Ride ”.
An arrangement of songs from seven countries by Bruce Chase native of muscatine (1912-2001) will be featured on the concert, and the public will be invited to join in Christmas carols to close the concert.
“It’s great to be back after having to cancel the events of last year,” Executive Director Robert Whipple said in a statement Friday. “This is our third concert of this season, and our audience was excited to welcome us back.” The orchestra is in its 68e concert season.
Tickets are available at the concert door. Regular adult admission is $ 20 and all students are admitted free. In addition, a student can be accompanied by an adult at half price. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted at the door.
Clinton Symphony Orchestra is a nonprofit arts organization and operates on revenue from tickets, individual and commercial contributions, foundation grants, civic organizations, and bequests. The orchestra includes around 50 musicians from the region.
Other season events include a chamber music concert on January 16, a family concert on February 19, and the indoor season finale on April 30. A free outdoor pop concert will be offered on June 5th. Detailed information is available on the Symphony Orchestra’s website at www.clintonsymphony.org.
Due to ongoing construction projects at Clinton High School, parking is located on the north side of 8e Avenue Sud, and the entrance to the theater is through gate A2, to the left of the main school entrance.
