The Florida Orchestra adds more concerts to its season

On the brink of its 55th season, the Florida Orchestra added more concerts, bringing more than 100 in total to Tampa Bay audiences. To celebrate this anniversary, legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman will perform at a benefit concert on October 1 at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg. The lineup includes favorites like “Schindler’s List Theme” as maestro Michael Francis directs.
This season now also includes the Amadeus Live cine-concert, Led Zeppelin and Beethoven X Coldplay rock concerts, Halloween and Christmas concerts and Soundwaves Chamber concerts.
Concerts in the expanded lineup will be performed at the Mahaffey Theatre, the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, the Tampa Theater and the Palladium Theater.
Tickets will go on sale August 15, along with single tickets for the 2022-23 season. Ticket prices vary. They will be available by calling 727-892-3337, at the Florida Orchestra Ticket Center, 244 Second Ave. N, St. Petersburg, and at floridaorchestra.org.
Here is the schedule:
Amadeus Live (September 17): A screening of the 1984 film ‘Amadeus’ as the orchestra and choir perform Mozart’s famous works.
55th celebration with Itzhak Perlman (October 1): The benefit concert supports the Florida Orchestra’s musical and educational programs.
Haunted Halls Family Concert (October 30): Dress up in costume and enjoy selections including music from John Williams of ‘Jaws’ and ‘Superman’. Chelsea Gallo directs.
Christmas Classical Concerts (December 17-18): Michael Francis leads the orchestra through Victor Hely-Hutchinson’s “Carol Symphony”, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” and an audience sings along. With the Tampa Bay Master Chorale.
Music by Led Zeppelin (November 18): Features the hits ‘Kashmir’, ‘Black Dog’, ‘All of My Love’ and ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and singer Randy Jackson and an electric violinist.
Beethoven x Coldplay (May 25, 2023): Mixes the music of Beethoven’s “Eroica Symphony” with the melodies and lyrics of Coldplay. Creator Steve Hackman directs.

- Pictures from a revisited exhibition (February 10-11, 2023): A new version of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”, arranged by Julian Yu.
- The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and More (March 11, 2023): On the program, the whimsical “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Dukas and the Danse macabre by Saint‐Saëns.
- Bruckner’s seventh (April 22-23, 2023): Anton Bruckner’s most popular symphony guided by musical director Michael Francis.
