The Glenn Miller Orchestra to perform at the Lions Lincoln Theater
MASSILLON – The Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform several of his hits such as “In the Mood”, “Moonlight Serenade” and “Tuxedo Junction” at 7:30 pm tonight at the Lions Lincoln Theater. Tickets are $ 20 for the balcony and $ 25 for the floor. All seats are reserved and can be purchased at www.lionslincolntheatre.org or by calling 330-481-9105. The legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful dance conductors of the 1930s and 1940s. Miller disbanded his music organization in 1942 at the height of its popularity to volunteer for the military. There he organized and led the famous Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band, which traveled to Europe to entertain the military. On December 15, 1944, Major Miller took off from Europe in a single-engine plane to precede his group to France, but disappeared over the English Channel, never to be seen again. The military officially declared him dead a year later.
With the release of the film “The Glenn Miller Story”, starring Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson in 1954, interest and popular demand led the Miller Estate to authorize the formation of the current Glenn Miller Orchestra. On June 6, 1956, the Reformed Glenn Miller Orchestra gave their first concert and have been on the road ever since. Today, the 15-member ensemble continues to perform many of Miller’s original arrangements. more modern selections arranged and performed in the style and sound of Miller.
