The Grand Opera House launches its first post-COVID-19 season
Over nearly thirteen decades, the Grand Opera House has established itself as an integral part of Macon’s vibrant community. Macon’s premier theater is eager to kick off a new season, with a varied lineup of events.
For those hoping to learn more about Macon’s music scene, the Grand Opera House pays homage to the Allman Brothers, Otis Redding and Queen.
The Otis Redding Foundation will present this tribute on September 9 at 7 p.m., while Big Band of Brothers will present a jazz celebration of the Allman Brothers on January 21 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Queen’s tribute will be performed by Gary Mullen & The Works. , with “One Night of Queen” on November 17 from 7:30 p.m.
Additionally, the Grand Opera House will continue to present the Broadway Series, a collection of beloved Broadway shows.
Featured shows include “Fiddler on the Roof” from November 3-4 at 7:30 p.m., “Legally Blonde: The Musical” from January 12-13 at 7:30 p.m., and “On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan” from the April 18 to 19 at 7:30 p.m.
A selection of Broadway cabarets are also featured, ranging from “Broadway Does Pride” on September 28 to “Broadway Does Country” on March 17 and “Broadway Does Punk” on April 28. More information on Broadway cabarets is available at The Grand Opera website.
Finally, classical ballet and music lovers will want to listen to the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra, offering a wide variety of music ranging from classical to modern and contemporary. On October 17 at 7:30 p.m., Mercer students can enter for free with their Bear Card and enjoy a revamped symphony.
The Nutcracker of Central Georgia and the State Ballet Theater of Ukraine present both invigorating classical music and beautiful ballet. The Nutcracker will embody “the magical spirit of the holiday season,” says the Grand Opera House’s website, from December 8-11 at 7:30 p.m., and the State Ballet Theater of Ukraine presents Tchaikovsky’s timeless score and memorable choreography. at Swan Lake on Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
