The Lima Symphony Orchestra opens the 2022-2023 season with Folklore and Fusion
This program tells stories from the Near to the Far East through musical fantasy. Opening the program are the sounds of Indian tabla, performed by tabla player Sandeep Das in Wijeratne’s Concerto for Tabla and Orchestra. To complete this musical journey, Rimsky-Korsakov’s masterpiece, Shéhérazade, with violinist Michael Houff of the Lima Symphony Orchestra, inspired by the folklore of the Thousand and One Nights.
The 2022-23 season is the third for music director Andrew Crust. This season brings voices new and old, classic and popular, reinvented and reinvented, to the stage. The season will feature world-class guest artists, as well as musicians from the LSO and the LSO Symphony Chorus.
“Our LSO season-opening program this year is one that I’ve been passionate about for a very long time,” said Music Director Andrew Crust. “Not only does it feature one of the greatest orchestral pieces of all time, Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov, but we will also be joined by one of the world’s great masters of Indian music, Sandeep Das. Sandeep is a virtuoso tabla player, a founding member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Grammy Award Winning Silk Road Ensemble, and a fantastic stage storyteller. This program will be extraordinarily colorful, steeped in sounds from the Far East and Middle East, a journey inside the exotic and ancient tales of 1001 Arabian Nights, and the LSO is sure to sparkle in this amazing repertoire. This is a concert not to be missed!
