LOGAN — The American Festival Chorus and Orchestra announced its 2022-2023 season with eight concerts, featuring a wide range of music and performances from well-known guests.
In his 15e Dr. Craig Jessop will lead AFCO audiences through the breathtaking nuances of Vaughan Williams and Bach to Christmas classics and songs from around the world, culminating in the sweet sounds of some of Cache Valley’s young musicians.
Season passes are on sale now and single tickets will be available on September 12.
“We are thrilled to bring another season of beautiful music to Cache Valley in our 15th year together.“says Jessop. “We’ve had some amazing experiences together over the past 15 years, and we can’t wait to share more amazing music and talent.”
AFCO celebrates English composer Ralph Vaughan-Williams with The Great English Mystic, a program of some of his most beloved choral and orchestral works, on October 22, 2022.
From her famous “Serenade to Music” and “Hodie” to “The Lark Ascending,” the evening will also feature the USU Women’s Chorus.
The AFC will join the USU Symphony Orchestra for a patriotic musical tribute honoring the courage and sacrifice of Armed Forces veterans. The 2022 guest speaker is Jennie Taylor, widow of Major Brent R. Taylor, Mayor of North Ogden and Utah National Guard officer who lost his life while serving in Afghanistan.
GENTRI will return to Logan, an unforgettable musical holiday celebration featuring music from his latest Christmas album. Enjoy popular and traditional holiday favourites, festive decorations, a few surprises and the Westminster Bell Choir.
On February 4, 2023, Grammy-nominated violinist Jenny Oaks Baker and Emmy Award-winning and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Kurt Bestor will join the AFCO for a live performance of their inspiring new album “The Redeemer”, composed by Bestor for violin, orchestra and choir.
In commemoration of Good Friday, April 7, 2023, AFCO will present Bach’s St. John Passion at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Logan. This masterpiece of classical sacred music is considered by many to be the finest of JS Bach’s Passion oratorios, which remains unrivaled in its dramatic impact and dynamic emotional effects.
The Melody of Humanity – A Celebration of World Music on April 29, 2023 explores music from non-Western traditions, particularly from refugee and immigrant communities right here in Cache Valley.
The American Festival Chorus High School Choral Festival on May 9, 2023 will showcase the region’s many outstanding young singers as the American Festival Chorus is joined by members of local high school choral programs.
For the second consecutive year, AFCO will collaborate with Carnegie Hall for the Carnegie Hall Link-Up Concert, a music education program designed by the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall. In this unique program, students prepare in advance and then participate in a culminating concert where they sing, move and play instruments with the orchestra from their seats in the Daines Concert Hall. This exceptional musical opportunity will take place on March 16, 2023 and is brought to Cache Valley students in grades 3-5 by the AFCO Education Outreach Committee.
