Vermont Fiddle Orchestra performs on December 4 at Barre Opera House – Waterbury Roundabout
The Vermont Fiddle Orchestra will present its first live concert in two years on Saturday December 4 at the Opéra de la Barre.
The orchestra will perform a variety of traditional North American and North European melodies starting at 7 p.m. in front of a live audience.
The concert marks the debut of director Peter MacFarlane, who has been music director for two years. The orchestra will share the music learned virtually at home over the past two years as MacFarlane from his studio in Vergennes has conducted rehearsals via Zoom with over 50 musicians. The recent rehearsals took place in person at the Capital City Grange in Montpellier.
The concert program includes a waltz written by MacFarlane as well as two pieces written by former orchestra director David Kaynor, who recently died of ALS.
The December 4 concert will have COVID-19 precautions in place. Spectators will need to show proof of vaccination, wear masks and be seated in baskets. The Opera Barre also has a new ventilation system which was installed as part of recent renovations.
Orchestra members are eager to share music in person with an audience.
