Virginia Symphony Orchestra to Celebrate Season with Holiday Concert Series


HAMPTON ROADS – The Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) will be performing four holiday concerts in Hampton Roads from December 10-18.
VSO’s Holiday POPs! concerts will put locals in the holiday spirit with seasonal songs and traditional Christmas carols, featuring the return of the VSO Chorus, conducted by conductor Robert Shoup.
The performances will take place on December 10 at Ferguson Center in the Newport News; December 11 to Harrison Opera House in Norfolk and on December 12 at Sandler Center in Virginia Beach.
VSO’s popular Jingle Bell Jam will provide fun for all ages. The 50-minute interactive concert will feature familiar music from the season, pre-concert activities, and photos with Santa.
Performances will be on December 12 at 3 p.m. at the Sandler Center in Virginia Beach, with pre-concert activities starting at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $ 12 per child and $ 17 per adult.
The VSO brass section will take center stage in “Holiday Brass”. Conducted by conductor Helen Martell, Holiday Brass will perform on December 15 in Saint-Bède Catholic Church in Williamsburg; December 16 at Regent University in Virginia Beach; December 17 to First Baptist Church in Newport News and on December 18 at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk.
Finally, VSO will present George Frederic Handel’s “Messiah” conducted by VSO’s founding conductor, Don McCullough, and featuring the Hallelujah Choir on December 16 at Regent University in Virginia Beach on December 17 at the First Baptist Church in Newport News, and December 17 at First Baptist Church in Newport News. 18 years at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk.
