news, latest news,

An 11-year-old cellist and a piano played by four hands are just part of the excitement that awaits the town’s annual family concert. Audiences will be entertained with visual projections, animated storytelling, and have the opportunity to take part in the performance of the Warrnambool Symphony Orchestra at the Lighthouse Theater this Friday. This is definitely not your typical orchestral concert, said WSO President John MacInnes. “It’s a real family concert. The kids will be caught up in the excitement rather than having to sit quietly,” he said. The haunting music of Camille Saint-Saëns, composer of the ‘Carnival of the Animals’, will open the show. Cast members of the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr show of Primary Performers which had to be canceled due to COVID-19 will also perform with the orchestra, as well as dancers, while the ever-popular Dr Nick the Magician is sure. to confuse with his magic tricks. “Conductor Sonia Beal has put together an engaging program that will captivate and delight young and old,” said MacInnes. There will be two pianists seated at the Steinway grand piano and special guest cellist Lachlan Reid, 11, of Hamilton, who will play the role of the swan. The orchestra will include musicians from the Robin Wright Ensemble and the Primary Performers’ Band. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, December 17 at the Lighthouse Theater.
