Huge Banksy art exhibit is coming to Media City next month

After several months of speculation, the organizers behind the traveling exhibition Banksy’s art announced they would be opening at MediaCity in October.

Previously, reports had speculated that the exhibit would appear on First Street in a purpose-built exhibition space, but now it appears the art show is heading to a different location altogether.

Landing in Manchester on October 21, 2022, the exhibition will showcase 145 iconic Banksy pieces, all from private collections around the world, to create the largest traveling collection of Banksy artwork in the world.

Having traveled to Melbourne, Chicago, San Francisco, Sydney, Washington DC, Boston, Tel Aviv, Auckland, Toronto, Miami, Gothenburg and London, Banksy’s art will soon arrive in the North of England.

Visitors will have the chance to discover the infamous artist’s best-known works alongside those rarely seen by the public, all on loan from private collectors.

Banksy art, presented in association with Manchester’s HOME theatre, will feature a large number of authentic works by Banksy ranging from prints, canvases, limited edition pieces, unique works and fascinating ephemera.

It represents a rare opportunity to see a glimpse of Banksy’s work from 2002 to 2017 in a temporary, purpose-built 1,200 square meter structure in the heart of MediaCity, offering visitors the chance to view the artist’s work from a way not possible on the street or in any museum or gallery.

Visitors can see the iconic works of art that brought the anonymous artist international fame, including girl with ball (2002) in three different color variations, flower thrower (2003), Coarse copper (2002), and prepare yourselves (2010) – a work that made headlines when Banksy gifted the painting to the band formerly known as ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop’ in exchange for the rights to their name.

A recent survey ranked girl with balloon as Britain’s favorite work of art while Time Magazine has already included Banksy in its list of the 100 most influential people in the world alongside Barack Obama, Stella McCartney and Steve Jobs.

The iconoclastic artist’s prank history also contributed to this reputation; they performed powerful deeds of declaration such as the secret installation of a crusher in girl with balloon for the work to self-destruct moments after it was auctioned for nearly $1.4 million in 2018, turning the work into a love in the trash.
