Youth Orchestra concert is ‘Made in USA’ | News

Space Coast Symphony YOUTH Orchestra performs works from America

CACAO BEACH – The Space Coast YOUTH Symphony Orchestra will present its annual fall concert with the participation of its three musical groups on Sunday, November 7 at 3:30 p.m. at Cocoa Beach Junior / Senior High School, 1500 Minutemen Causeway, in Plage cocoa. Made in the USA will present works by American composers or about the nation and its people. Beginner string players of the Academy Orchestra as well as intermediate players of the Symphony Orchestra will each perform several numbers. Advanced students of the Philharmonic Orchestra will then take the stage under the direction of Maestro Mark Nelson, performing works by Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein and John Philip Sousa, as well as Antonin Dvorak’s moving finale of his New World Symphony. no. 9. The 90-minute concert is free. An outreach of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, the youth orchestra for young people aged eight to 20 rehearse weekly in preparation for performances of classical symphonic masterpieces. Space Coast Symphony YOUTH Orchestra Executive Director Jensee Lee looks forward to the first concert of the new season and the opportunity to showcase the talents of all three groups of musicians.

“Our talented young musicians rehearsed for weeks ahead of this concert,” Ms. Lee said. “Each group presents inspiring works by American composers or about our nation. We invite everyone to come and support the efforts of these dedicated young people and enjoy their beautiful concert.”

The theme for the 2021-22 season of the Space Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra is Enlightenment, a reference to the optimism, vision, joy and light provided by music. Members of SCSYO are divided into three performance groups, to suit different ages and levels of experience. Weekly rehearsals for the 2021-22 season are held at the Temple Israel of Brevard in Viera, in accordance with current COVID-19 protocols from Brevard Public Schools, the International Coalition of Arts Organizations Aerosol Study, and the American String Teachers Association Return to Learning Guidelines. The orchestras are led by a talented artistic team made up of professional musicians and music teachers.

The spring 2022 session will feature a concerto competition and the resulting concert of the winners. The end of season concert will be performed alongside adult members of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Aaron T. Collins.
